:  The Vecinos area has seemed to bypass
time and remain the beautiful area that I remember from my childhood. For
the most part, the houses and properties are very well maintained. The
trees are still there in all their splendor and beauty, only bigger and
much greener. Most of the houses sit on a half acre or more. The rural
atmosphere is still there with the Ma and Pa grocery store still open for
business. It was a pleasant surprise to go back to this area.

Rediscovery on the Río Grande, By Jane Mahoney Member, Vecinos del Bosque Neighborhood Association
Isn't is strange that after 20 years, I'm finally discovering the river flowing practically through my backyard? The Río Grande. The big river. Waterway of countless western novels and lifeblood of the arid Southwest. Today I'm visiting the Alburquerque Botanic Garden and can't help but notice the soft, green glow of new cottonwood leaves fluttering enticingly just across the fence in the bosque. Read More.

Vecinos del Bosque neighborhood Association annually gives a donation to a family or person in need during the holidays.
In 2003, the association gave $600 to ARCO Feliz, an adult residential care shelter in their South Valley neighborhood. The shelter is a home for eight disabled war veterans who would otherwise be homeless, said Dora Trujillo, owner and operator of the shelter.
Trujillo said the shelter is always in need of canned goods and non-perishable food, men's clothing, blankets, gloves, towels and other personal items.
With the money Vecinos donated, each of the men received new jackets and other items this year, Trujillo said.
Helping present the check were Vecinos board members George and Beryl Montoya, Irma Ruiz, Barbara Gilbert and Robert Sánchez.
